The subconscious mind can play tricks and ploys on the host, perhaps dealing with knowing a predestined nature of some sort; leading to the unfortunate outcome of a decision made from the subconscious. In Macbeth, Shakespeare uses the characterization and attributes of characters to help thurst forth the plot and convey the perceptions of fate from the point of view of the man that makes the decisions, leading to actions to be made.
Lady Macbeth’s characterization helps display Shakespeare’s method’s qualities that can drive a character to make certain actions. Lady Macbeth’s actions help display the Shakespearean method by playing a large role, affecting many large events and conflicts in the play. A prime example that illustrates this point would be how she reignited the resolution that Macbeth had during the initial phases for his desire toward Duncan’s death. Lady Macbeth was also able to provide proper distraction and steering away any attention toward Macbeth when Macbeth began his hallucinations. Lady Macbeth upholds the stereotypical strong hearted, iron willed woman/wife to Macbeth, demonstrated through her actions during Macbeth’s emotionally and mentally unstable period; until she, herself became mentally incompetent. Toward the end of the play, Macbeth realizes the transformation that he and his wife have gone through and the causes of those transformations. The realization came forth when Macbeth sees his once iron clad wife, has rotted down, losing her mind, and becoming insane; forcing Macbeth to take his fury out on the habitants of the castle. Before losing her mind though, Lady Macbeth was able to portray and show what features drive the play and storyline.
Shakespeare depicts Macbeth’s character on a totally different wave length, making him a character that helps enhance the effect of “What a person believes will occur, will affect the outcome and decisional choices”. in the beginning of the play, Macbeth gains knowledge of the prophecy of Macbeth becoming the next King, influencing Macbeth’s thoughts and eventually leading him astray causing him to take matters into his own hands and killing Duncan to change the fate with his own hands. Although, the prophecy was put forth by untrusting vile witches, this little notion was what caused Macbeth to attempt to hasten to dethroning of King Duncan. Another event that displays how knowledge can affect actions is near the end of the play, Macbeth believes that he is near invincible because of his attained knowledge of the belief no one born of a woman’s womb can harm him. Only during his learning that Macduff was taken out of his mother’s womb early, Macbeth’s concentration becomes fogged and fear grips Macbeth because he now knows that there is someone that can bring upon his death. Because of what Macbeth believed would possibly happen, this lead to his actions being different then normal displaying how Shakespeare clarifies the view of how a person is characterized through the use of Macbeth.
Through the two characters, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth, Shakespeare pushes forth the plot, displaying how the perception of a belief can entirely influence the actions of the character. The characterization of Lady Macbeth is Primarily responsible for the action, while Macbeth on the other hand is the silver platter that present Shakespeare’s theory how a characters behavior.
