T1P3 Renaissance Synthesis Question

Alex Prime, Morgan Palma, Sarp Elaziz, Jennifer Yang

2.During the Renaissance period, the artwork began to synthesize secular aestheticism and religious asceticism. This idea reflected the difference in the religious views from those of the Middle Ages to the more enlightened ones of the Renaissance period. The artwork and the artists ideals represent the changing ideologies of the times, for example the change from a dark punishing God to a rewarding and father-like God. The use of religious icons in the latter day Renaissance paintings, such as The Last Supper painted by Leonardo da Vinci, show that there was a closer feeling with God and Christianity. The artists, and therefore the people incorporated Christianity into their everyday lives through such paintings. Other art, such as the statue of David by Donatello also shows the opening up of the society on the strict rules that were there previously and the exploration of new ideas within the society. This was all portrayed through the naked statue of David, the first naked statue ever. The opening to new ideas and the exploration of new boundaries all formed new philosophies in the Renaissance period and led the introduction of even more modern ideas in the future.
