Synthesis Question Wylie Team 9 Period 5
When we look at the cultures between the Greeks and the Anglo-Saxons, we see many conflicts between the two that may arise, and we can determine this by works of literature. An example we can look at is the writing from the story Beowulf during the Angle-Saxon era. The story Beowulf is inherited by a Germanic heroic tradition, which means that during this time heroes were greatly valued, such as the character Beowulf plays. Heroes were looked upon as an important figure due to their bravery and courage to fight for their country and pass the limits that were considered unattainable, unlike the Greeks whom value their gods. This is where the conflict arises. Greek people were to focus on their gods and not go out of their place in which they were born into, but the Anglo-Saxons were honored for going beyond their boundaries and standing out. So we can see here that both acted as foils towards one another, merely because both of their cultures had opposite practices.
This is a great analysis! From what I read, your analysis is very accurate. The only thing i am confused with is when you say "unlike the Greeks whom value their Gods." The Anglo-Saxons also valued their gods. Your post makes it seem like they only value their heros of which is not completely true. Other than that, great response. Keep up the good work!
