wylie period 1 team 5
The modern era, characterized amidst war and hardship was a blank canvas for the pain artists of the day were able to visualize and exemplify. The contrasting artistic styles of Picasso and Rembrandt, two influential and famous artists used their talent to make a statement with their works. While Picasso’s cubic and abstract artwork was a live commentary on his political views, Rembrandt’s more realistic works focused more on historical figures and scenes. Although their styles differed, the two shared a knack for capturing the heart of the people in their art. Both artist’s collections mirror moods, emotions, societal chaos and confusion that lingered among the throngs in their daily lives. Although Rembrandt was alive much earlier than Picasso, the themes depicted in each artist’s work reflects emotions concerning war and destruction that lives from many eras can relate to people of all kinds. This shows us how ideals can be integrated into each and every time period, no matter what time period one lives in, they can experience similar feelings. Themes from Picasso and Rembrandt also crop up in modern literature such as "The Stranger" by Camus, which deals with idealism of nihilism and other philosophies, all contributing to our understanding of the thinking of people in the modern era.

Great connection to "The Stranger". We completely agree that time periods are not the driving force of changes in ideals and tradition, such that is translated into artworks for future generations to understand and grasp the meaning and purpose of the artist. It is difficult to categorize different feelings from different artists from different eras because they do not experience the same events. Our depictions are, if we may do say so ourselves, slightly bias because our judgments are also altered based on our memory, the events in our lives, and the people that help make us who we are. Your analysis of the modern era wonderfully linked the mindsets of people from different decades, showing an understanding of how life changing events and figures, such as Martin Luther King Jr., were able to capture the essence of their lives and translate them into artworks and literary pieces. Great job!
