The Victorian era was a time of immense scientific progress, a product from the Romantic era. During Queen Victoria's reign, thinkers were challenged with new ideals. Charlnes Darwin developed his theory of evolution and published The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection. This book is extremely crucial because it introduced a new concept called evolution and natural selection, that humans and other life forms evolved from simpler life forms over millions and millions of years. This was a product of the previous era because during the Romantic period, people were extremely aware of the environment and that environment included animals. In developing a new idea and challenging what was originally thought, Darwin contributed to the Victorian era by providing a pivotal theory that shaped the rest of history. In addition, the Victorian period was based on logic and less of creativity. Essentially, the Victorian era is the Romantic era and Enlightenment combined. Proof is presented in the role women played during Queen Victoria's rule. Women like Mary Wollstonecraft realized, reflected, and actively participated during this era because they were empowered with a sense of logic and reason. Women became more than just a child-bearer or housewife and started taking on voices of their own. The Victorian age was a time where biblical ideals of existence was challenged by Charlnes Darwin and when women became evident and passionate owners of strong voices, reason, and logic.

  1. This is a great synthesis response! You managed to answer the question fully while maintaining impressive diction and also expanding on the prompt with your own opinion. This response is impressive both stylistically, as well as factually. Nice work!
