Asher P.1 - Rachel Clauss
In Macbeth by Shakespeare, Shakespeare uses the characterization of Macbeth’s reactions, actions and actions of others to causer his fate, and to drive the action of the play forward. Macbeth reacts to the fate that was foretold by the three witches. His actions to make the fortune come true changes his fate, but also makes his and others characters actions, move the play forward. Macbeth’s thoughts make him question his actions and his fate.
Macbeth’s fate is to be king, he first finds out about it from the three witches. He is determined to make that fate come true, and do whatever is needed to make it happen. His decision to kill Duncan and blame it on others drives his fate and the action of the play forward. At one point in the play Macbeth questions his decision to kill Duncan. . His thoughts make him regret what he was about to do. Lady Macbeth has to convince him to do it. Lady Macbeth convinces her husband to kill Duncan because she wants to be Queen as much as he wants to be king. Her convincing him makes his fate become true. Macbeth also starts to question Banquo’s actions.
The three witches told Banquo that he would not be king but his sons would. At first Macbeth was happy for his friend. After some thought he didn’t want Banqou’s sons to take over, he wanted his own sons to be kings. So his reaction to his own thoughts is to kill Banqou, to make sure that Banquo’s heirs can never reign. This action makes Macbeth start to see things that are not there, such as ghosts, and to become very suspicious of everyone. Macbeth thinks that he can control his fate, when your fate is controlled by your own choices by your own actions.
Macbeth’s actions to make sure no one can be king but himself, causes everyone against him to go to England. There they form an army to over throw Macbeth. Macbeth’s actions make all those that were loyal to him turn against him. Macbeth’s reactions to this are to kill Macduff’s wife and children because he went to join the army in England. Doing this affects Macduff’s fate but also Macbeths because now Macduff wants revenge against Macbeth because he killed Macduff’s family. This tells us that not only did Macbeth actions effect himself but also others. That he is not just changing his own fate through his actions and reactions but also others are affected by it. For an example killing Duncan makes his wife feel so guilty that she commits suicide.
One can’t change their fate. But their actions can affect ones fate. I believe that your fate is set out for you but the reactions, actions and actions of other, affect how long it takes to reach your fate. Macbeth’s actions cause his fate to last a long time. The actions, reactions and other actions caused the action in the play to keep moving forward.
