Ballet during the Romantic era took a spin from ballet of previous periods. This lyrical form of dance brought about a unique aestheticism, which captivated the audience and evoked various emotions. The Romantic period was classified during the industrialization and the transition divided society into different classes. Many were discouraged and distraught, struggling to survive and make a living. Romantic ballet depicted the conflict between man and nature and glorified nature’s beauty contradicting the industrial aspects of society. The audience used ballet as an escape from the harsh reality and took part in the supernatural qualities of Romantic ballet. Women predominantly performed and wore tutus. The women dressed in tutus conveyed an image of nature and simultaneously expressed the beauty found in nature. This enabled the audience to flee from reality and immerse themselves into the mystical aspects of Romantic ballet.
