Haley Shin Tiffany Ten Jennifer Lee Synthesis Romantic

Synthesis Question
The thinkers of the Romantic Era were secular from religion by their style of architecture and literary works. The stories and poems written by Romantic writers and poets were heavily influenced by imagination rather than biblical references. The gothic style added a dim secular sector to the reader’s mind. Gothic stories contained mystical feelings that caused the reader’s to feel eerie and dim. The paintings from the Romantic Era were mainly consisted of nature and the peaceful landscapes where poets and Romanticists could escape into their imaginative realm. Gothic style seemed rebellious and wild rather than the sophisticated religious style. Chopin, a Gothic music writer composed the Funeral March. The grim and menacing topic touched areas which are normally frowned up on in many societies. Religious hymns praised and tuned in harmony, where gothic music caused people to feel depressed or even teary.

  1. Good job introducing romanticism and the contrasting Gothic style of the era. However, we would like to see more depth in your analysis of Romanticism and explain further why Gothic style was popular when it “caused people to feel depressed or even teary.” Your group could also give an example of a famous story, poem or painting that depicted the era of Romanticism. Also, your group strays from the original prompt by writing more about the Gothic style than Romanticism. Overall, your synthesis was nicely organized, but could be greatly improved with examples regarding Romanticism and further insights that address the prompt.
